Dak Prescott, Bill Belichick to Giants in 2025 floated by Nick Wright

The New York Giants are in a tough situation as a franchise. Two years ago they gave QB Daniel Jones an extension after winning a Wild Card game against the Vikings. Just two years later that deal looks like a huge mistake. The Giants passed on JJ McCarthy in the 2024 NFL Draft, which mean they’re sticking with either Daniel Jones or Drew Lock in 2024.

What could their long-term plans be at the position? Nick Wright recently shared an interesting prediction on what they may do in 2025.

Wright recently appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and dropped a prediction for the 2025 offseason: Bill Belichick and Dak Prescott replace Brian Daboll and Daniel Jones with the New York Giants.

“I think it’s really on the board, Daniel Jeremiah alluded to this,” Wright said, “that Drew Lock ends up starting more games this year than Daniel Jones, that the Giants are clearly in a transition period this season.”

Due to the injury guarantees on Jones’ contract for 2025, it benefits the Giants to bench him if they decide he is not in the team’s future plans.

“I think it is on the board that Dak Prescott and Bill Belichick are a package deal next season to the New York Giants,” Wright said. “That Bill gets to come back to the Giants, they get to steal away the Cowboys quarterback, answer that problem.”

Belichick was previously a defensive coordinator for the Giants during the Bill Parcells era.

“I think Bill and Dak could go and remake an entire organization, head coach and quarterback, a year from now” Wright concluded.

Bill Belichick doesn’t land coaching job in 2024 hiring cycle

Belichick will presumably be available for the Giants to hire next offseason because he is currently a free agent. Bill Belichick received some significant interest from NFL teams during the last hiring cycle, but every team ultimately decided to pass on him.

Belichick may take the path that other head coaches have taken recently — taking a “gap year” to refocus their efforts and head back to coaching with a new mindset.

Bill has been operating under the same philosophy, with significant power, for a long period of time. He may benefit from the opportunity to take a step back and land in a new situation in 2025.

Dak Prescott’s murky contract situation

Dak Prescott is also a somewhat realistic option for the Giants in 2025, depending on how the 2024 NFL season plays out.

Prescott is currently in a murky contract situation. He and head coach Mike McCarthy are in the last years of their respective contracts. Dallas has also been hesitant to hand out long-term contracts to its other key players like Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb. All of this begs the question: if the Cowboys don’t have success in 2024, will they blow up their core and rebuild?

If that happens, or Prescott simply decides he doesn’t want to return to Dallas, then he will be free to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

It would be weird to see Prescott suit up for Big Blue, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
